Hi all, ive had Moon for about 5 months now and hes really well.
We went through a phrase a couple of months ago were he seemed very cranky and would squawk super loud and try to get our attention obsessively. I knew i had to adjust our daily routine to ensure he was healthy and happy, so i started letting him out of the cage 2 hours earlier and alot more training with Moon.
Moon has always lived cage free with us only when we do go out and when its bed time.
Since then there has been an entire tunr around and Moon has stopped squaking and started squeaking and what seems like practing his vocal range to eventually start talking.
Moon is very chatty and can chatter under his breath for hours and squeak and bob his head, peck at his perch branch, wiggle one foot that almost looks like a wave!
Did i mention its extremely loud! 🤣
I notice hes a lot less chatty when my 8&9 year old are away on the weekends.
Although im quite postive Moon behaviour is of a happy birds i just wanted to get your opinions on what hes actually trying to communicate. Hes also spending a lot more time in different areas of the house, and on his cage instead of the perch.
Hes not entirely sociable, like he won't just fly over to us, but happy to participate in training, and will sit on my shoulder for a while during training even if I'm no longer offering treats, Moons very inquisitive but still very unsure/ uncomfortable with alot of things within the home. E.g the cushions on the sofa, he'll fly to me if i prompt him but will squawk as he lands almost as if hes anticipating something to happen.
Heres a few short videos of Moon making a racket and general chatter and him attempting a spin. (click/copy the link)
