One time I took my Quakers with me to Michigan to visit my parents. While in Michigan, I had to leave for a business trip and had to board the birds for a few days. There's an awesome vet in Saline (on Ann Arbor-Saline Road) that also has a boarding facility called "All Creature Comforts." They are kind of pricey, but they give each bird its own room when boarding (although, my birds stayed together). They have a brand new facility, which is beautiful. I also took my birds in to the vet there to have an annual check up, fecal tests, beak and wing trim - they were very nice and sweet with my birds. They also do DNA testing - if you are interested in finding out if Mr. Pickles is really a "Mister"... smile.gif #11 [After Reading The Post "had To Leave My Bird"...: post #11] Sharon AKA Lizard Lady Sharon AKA Lizard Lady Members 1,052 posts 0 warning points Location:Oregon Posted 29 August 2006 - 01:25 PM Salem Oregon here and willing to help on a tip basis. A popular Colombian expression seems to apply on this forum:
''Aunque el mono se vista de seda mono se queda'' OR ''Even if the monkey decides to wear a silk outfit, it still would be a monkey.''
In other words, a pet is still an animal and not a human, and no matter how much we try to equate the two, they will always be different.

Posted 08 October 2006 - 05:40 AM I am in Baltimore MD. A few years back we had Hurricane Isabelle come to visit. In my emergency box, in addition to people food for 3 days, I keep emergencey supplies for my dogs, cat and all of the birds. If I could not take my animals, I guess I would stay with them. This is what would happen as most shelters would not let me bring my rottie. But I can help anyone nearby who needs an animal friendly place. Debra

Simply, the compulsion to acquire more and more parrots. An aviholic figures, "one is good, eight would be much better." I could board my baby at the vet... but would rather someone take care of him that can give him some attention. (which I'm afraid he won't get enough of at the vet.) I've had him 2 years, and he's never been left for more than a day and a half. He's very bonded to his mommy. wub.gif It would be for about 8 or 9 days. I need someone with some bird experience... and not someone who is new to birds. I don't want to be worried to death the whole time I'm gone. I live in the downriver area of Michigan. (close to dearborn) FYI... he's a quaker, and as such, he tends to be loud and demanding... and he's not been around many people besides my husband and I... so not very well socialized when it comes to strangers. Pickles is really a "Mister"... smile.gif I'm visiting a girlfrind in October - Saline Rd! I just read this tonight. But I would really like to live in GA around Ringgold area. HOwever, the GA Dept. I don't have any idea what to do and am feeling very sad that I may wake up any morning and find him on the bottom of the cage. Any advice is appreciated. I thought since you lived close you may be able to help. Just wondering! Thanks!! Also, if I do loose him I would love another one but have no idea where to look. Do you have any suggestions? I got him from a pet store here in town and he was very healthy, I don't know what went wrong. sad.gif Holly Like This Holly Dunn Wentzville, MO Homeschooling Mom to Kyle(son) and Cody(QP, no longer with us) Wife to Scott www.allmyhobbiesinoneplace.com Quote MultiQuote Delete Hide Edit Report

Shoot, I guess I should stop trying to teach her the Quaker Song then!!!! Actually, now it looks as though we will be staying in TX, so I am not stressing it anymore right now. I spoke to the wildlife vet at TExas A&M here, she is an acquaintance of mine, and her advice was to find the bird that looks most like a quaker and say that is what my bird is. so I told her grey cheeked parakeet. She also said that the vets in those states are not required by law to report if you have that bird. Since it actually isn't a "state" law, but wildlife and fisheries. rolleyes.gif Like This do you love me? i can mash potato! I am a very spiritual person (please bear with me for those of you who are not) and I viewed the recapture and how it occured as a miracle. This was when we only had one bird. We have acquire two more since then. Here's our story.... We live in Brenham TX, which is half way between Houston and Austin TX. We just became a Quaker Family less than a month ago. It is a concern of ours about where does Sky go when we go? So having a "Co-Op" would help.
