The lady who had Romeo before let him get in the bathtub with her, and to be honest that's just not something I want to do. I have been trying to convince Romeo that a shower is better than a bath but he disagrees and refuses to use a shallow dish, a sink, the shower or the tub unless i sit in it. Does anyone having any ideas of how to convince him a shower would be just the thing?

Mr P will only bathe in his water dish which is way too small. I give him a shower every few days by spraying him with a plant mister. He loves it

Sometimes Dory doesn't want to bath so I start a slow trickle of warm water in bathroom sink! Put her in and once she feels the water she stays in! Until then I cup my hands over her so she can't escape!

Do you have a shower perch? Maybe you can convince him that showers are great if you get a shower perch, put it away from the shower head, and just let him be in the shower with you a couple of times. You can use the back of your hand to splash a little water at him. That's what I did with Squirt (he's only 7 months old now) to convince him that showers were fun. It also helped that Sweetea (who is almost 8.5 yrs old) loves showers and showed Squirt that they were a blast. After I splashed Squirt a couple of times, He wanted to step up and start fluffing his feathers for me to splash more water. I never put them directly under the shower head water stream; I just use the back of my hand to catch droplets to splash at them and they love it!

No I don't have a shower perch, all the ones I've seen were suction cup and I was doubtful it would hold. I'll have to order one tonight to check it out! I'll update with how Romeo takes to it

I have one that does not adhere to my shower walls, unfortunately. I put it on the mirror in the bathroom, so at least the humidity is a benefit. I had a lovebird who liked to bathe in a table-top fountain; the kind with rocks and water tumbling over them. Moment of zen thing. He would not bathe in standing water, but just turn on a tap and he was THERE.
You might try putting a dish in his cage and running a vacuum. Vacuums stimulate many birds to bathe, for some reason. I can't use it with Peppy quaker because he is afraid of it, but it makes my grey head for her water dish. She is another who will bathe only there, so I take her in the shower with me sometimes and hold her on my hand while I indirectly spray her.

Pico the Parrotlet is another one who will only bathe in his water dish, which is too small for him...so his head and front end are very clean, but his back and most of his body are dirty. Silly boy. He doesn't like being misted, he won't go in a shallow tub....we're getting ready to try a wet lettuce leaf (maybe kale or mustard greens for the nutritional value, if he wanted to taste it) for him to roll around in.

Not to hijack the thread but how do you like your Parrotlet? If I hadnt wound up adopting from a rescue, I probably would've purchased a baby parrotlet. The breeder I was going to get one from also had quakers which made me decide that a quaker might be fun too, which made me decide to adopt.

Just wanted to update. Romeo did not like the shower. He freaked out, but I did find something he likes. I ran a little bit of lukewarm water in the bathtub and sat beside the tub with my hand in the water. Romeo went right on in with no problem!

Oh, you could fit one of those rubber hoses (with the shower head fitting on the other end) onto the bath tap and just have it running in the bathtub (without trying to get him to particularly go to it). Maybe it would get him accustomed to a 'shower' idea after a while?

Muffin is two month old and he's been with me for a couple of weeks. When should I give him his first bath? and what would be a good approach?

Bathing is instinctive for most, though not all, birds, and most of the time just need to be given the opportunity. Start out by placing a shallow dish with water in his cage. One that won't tip if he stands on the rim. That's all I have to do for Peppy. He will happily bathe himself several times a week.
If Muffin doesn't respond to that, I would first try running the vacuum in his vicinity, assuming he is not frightened by it. There are other ways to get him bathed if this doesn't work.
