One of my bettas died this week, and I decided to stick to two tanks instead of three. I moved his snails into the other two tanks and gave his tank to a friend who runs a day care (she thinks having fish will be interesting for the tots). I had to go to Petsmart yesterday to buy food for my zoo and while waiting my turn to get meal worms for Rex the leopard gecko (and Ringo, my starling, who steals as many as I'll let her steal), I was looking at the fish, who are in the same area. I decided to get a couple of fish who are NOT bettas who might be able to live peaceably with a betta. Otis has been behaving oddly recently, and I don't think he's going to be with us much longer, but I didn't want him to be annoyed, either. So I have two platy fish, that the clerk told me are called "creamsicles" and put them in the tank. One is male and one is female and I'm told they breed enthusiastically. LOL So eventually, if they do, I'll have extras that I can put in the other tank with Opie.
Normally I clean fish tanks on Sunday, but I don't know if I should clean that tank today before those two (their names are Arthur and Betsy) get settled in.

I wondered when you were going to post about Arthur and Betsy here! I'm looking forward to seeing your first "OMG, I have baby Platies!" post. LOL

They're eating heartily and swimming around in sync all over the tank, and Otis has livened up now that he has fishy roommates. Maybe he was just bored.

This morning I saw Betsy hanging in the water near Otis, who was hiding in his plant, and she was staring at him like, "Wait, who are YOU???" LOL When I fed them, Otis came out and darted around even though I dropped his food right in front of his nose. Art and Betsy chase each other around but they didn't chase Otis. I think it's going to be okay.

No Really, I don't even try. Having all these critters makes me happy, and I try to make them happy, and I think we all benefit. Trixie perks up and chirps and hops around and around when I sit in front of her cage and talk to her now, and I have high hopes of getting her on a finger soon. Rex the leopard gecko will let me stroke his head a couple of times a week and on rare occasions, he'll walk into my hand and let me hold him. And in spite of my mother swearing to me back when I got Benjy that budgies don't let you snuggle and I should just be happy if he'd sit on my hand, he has resigned himself to being kissed -- a lot -- and doesn't bite pieces out of me for doing it anymore. When he gets tired of being kissed, he just flies away. Jade preens my hair and sometimes kisses me and Freddie rides around on my head. Johnny sat on my arm last night for the first time since Greta arrived, and may be deciding to be sweet Johnny again soon instead of Aloof Johnny as he was the whole time she lived with us.

Clyde doesn't know about Trixie and has probably forgotten Ringo, whom he met only briefly before I realized having her in their room manifestly wasn't going to work. He doesn't mind fish too much as long as he gets plenty of attention and I don't bring out the scary siphon too often. Once a week is all he will allow me to use the siphon. He tolerates Benjy and Maggie is okay as long as she stays on the back of my chair during Bird Time. I can speak to Jade but if I play with her I get chomped. I am not really supposed to acknowledge the tiels at all, but if he's having a snack, I can speak to them until he's finished.
