We got a new chair for the living room so I moved the old one into the birds' room and set it next to Jade's cage. When I sit there with the others all over me, Jade hangs off the side of her cage and acts like she wants to step up but, of course, she won't actually do that. So I got a long bird ladder that used to be on the play gym and fixed it for a bridge between her cage and the chair back. She freaked and hid in her happy hut. Mind you, she used to walk all over this same ladder when it was on the play gym. I explained to her that the ladder was so she could get from her cage to the chair more easily, and she poked her head out of the happy hut and looked at the ladder as I was talking and gesturing toward it. It was so funny. She hasn't used it yet, or even gone near it that I've caught her at, but maybe she will.
Last night, Freddie and Johnny were on top of Clyde's cage eating millet and minding their own business and she sneaked up behind Freddie and yanked his tail. He squawked and freaked out and Johnny squawked and freaked out, and I didn't know which one she'd picked on until I saw Freddie's tail feathers were mangled.

Sometimes, it's all about context. An object that's perfectly fine in one place is a big threat to parrot life if it's moved somewhere else. Jade's at it again, hmm? "But Mom, it's fun to pull Benjy's tail!"

She yanked Freddie's yesterday. Today she yanked Johnny's and managed to pull a feather out, and -- I am NOT making this up! -- she sat there with that feather in her beak, bobbed her head, and giggled. I made her go to bed. It was almost bedtime anyway, and she can't go around yanking people's tail feathers out without consequences. When I shut her door behind her, she said "Whatcha doin'? Whatcha? Kiss kiss! (followed by kissing sounds)." And I said, "It's too late for that. You were a bad girl." So she had a snack. Johnny's okay and let me kiss him and I kissed Freddie, too, and then they had a snack.Apparently, there's nothing a snack can't fix.

I guess I'm so used to reading about Jade pulling Benjy's tail that I forgot whose tail got pulled this time. It seems like almost everybody's tail feathers are fair game to her now.

Never fear. She pulled Benjy's last night. Apparently, she's working her way through the flock. She knows better than to pull Clyde's, but everyone else is fair game, including Mommy, whose hair got pulled this morning. LOL

I'd love to hear how she knows better than to pull Clyde's! When I read that I got this picture in my head of this little girl that went to the daycare I worked at. She would go around pinching and biting all the kids except one little boy who she bit one time and he chased her down and bit her hard enough to break the skin, and while he had to get in trouble I was secretly cheering him on.

Clyde was already installed as Chief Bird in Charge when Jade joined the family and she has just always acknowledged him as Leader of the Pack. He's the only one she'll give way for. If he wants the treat cup, she lets him have it. If she's on a perch and he wants it, she lets him have it. Nobody else dares challenge her for anything but Clyde is Da Boss as far as she's concerned.
