Hi everybody! Some of you may remember me as santanasmom. I haven't been on the forum for quite a while due to health reasons. With a very sad heart I have to tell u that my sweet Santana left this world very suddenly 10 days ago. I am dealing with this the best way I know how. It was so sudden - he was playing with my husband early a.m. When I got up he was sitting perfectly still and rushed him to animal Hospital.
gone a few hours later. This was also a week before we were leaving on vacation and he was going to be boarded at this same vet - they were so looking forward to Spending time with him.
I didnt want to feel like I had to replace him but there is such a void in my heart. I prayed about and felt like if I could find one in my area (Chicago area) then I would feel like it was meant to be and it was. I found a very reputable bird dealer and he has 4 Quakers still being hand fed. So even though she's not home with me yet I would like to have introduce Lucy McGilloucudy. (Any I love Lucy fans out there?)

I'm very sorry to read about Santana. I haven't been around long enough to remember him, but do know what it's like to suddenly lose a beloved companion. Some people can't bear the thought of getting another right away, but for others it is absolutely the best thing to do. My husband likes to refer to all birds as chickens. I always thought that when I get chickens again, and assuming they are the classic red/brown variety, one will be called Lucy, one Rita, and one Ruby.

I lost a tiel a few weeks ago, and while I had the other seven to help fill the void, when I saw little Trixie with a bald head in the pet shop, I knew bringing her home would help me AND her. I don't miss Greta any less, but the empty space she left now belongs to a birdy who needed a home. I think you did the right thing.

Sorry to hear about Santana. Losing a companion parrot is heartbreaking, and it does leave an empty place in one's life. I know I would never want to be without a parrot again. I'm sure Lucy will be a happy addition to your life. I've seen pretty much every episode of I Love Lucy probably a dozen times each. It's an all-time television classic.
