The birds' room is the coldest in the house in winter and the hottest in summer so I'm constantly trying to keep their temperature comfortable (for me; it doesn't seem to bother them). They have an electric radiator to boost the warmth in there because in spite of two heat ducts, the central heat just doesn't manage to keep their room as warm as the rest of the house. I have plastic over the windows and heavy curtains over that. Today I didn't pull the curtains back in the hope that leaving the heavy curtains closed would help keep it warmer, too. Once it gets good and warm, it stays that way, but the cold snap we're having (everybody's having!) caught me off guard. So I turned on their UV lamp and left the curtains closed and I don't think they're happy. The tiels like to bask in the light of the UV lamp, but Clyde gets grouchy. It's in a corner so they'd have to go over to that corner to get in its light, but I still expect a grouchy Clyde when I get home after work.

I saw a story on the news about your weather problems over there. Here it's spring and even in winter we don't get ice & snow in most residential areas....whoa, it must be very difficult trying to keep quakers and other south American parrots comfortable. I've never used a UV lamp. Clyde is always grouchy and self-obsessed, though, isn't he?

True. LOL He's extra grouchy because I've had a busy week and they haven't seen a lot of me. I had to work late two nights, I had band practice one night and wind ensemble at church last night. And I've been spending a little extra of my limited free time in Ringo and Trixie's room to try to help Trix get used to me.
