Getting my first quaker/monk this weekend Can someone advise which is a better choice. Male or female.

That's a good question, and you'll probably get different answers from different people, based on their own experiences. Based on parrots in general, here's my opinion, for what it's worth. They're not naturally hard wired for a lot of distinct behavioral differences. One is not The Protector and one The Nurturer. They're both cooperative by nature, particularly toward a mate, and they share duties, so it's hard to say that one sex will be tamer than the other. How they are raised and individual personality are more important in determining that. It will be hard to know which you are getting unless they have been DNA sexed.

I agree fully with easttex, it depends on the individual bird and how he or she is raised. My female quaker is loud and obnoxious and more inclined toward aggression, she also talks clearly and often. My male quaker is friendly and quiet and entertains himself, he doesn't talk nearly as much.
IMHO it's nice to know your bird's gender if health issues come up, it makes the vet's job a little easier.
