Hello. We just bought two 8 month old parrots. I've got my training sticks and ordered my clickers. Any one have tip trick or advice for starting our training? I'm already in love and can't wait to get work I ng with them

Hi there and welcome! I think working on your relationship with your two parrots is the most important thing at first, as it's a big change for them. Maybe you could hold the training until you are sure they are really comfortable with you (although perhaps they are already?). At least you already have some of the equipment to start when you think they're ready. Regarding the training itself I don't have a lot of knowledge about that area, but plenty of others on the forum do. Hope you enjoy your new babies!

Hi, and welcome. Just curious, are they housed together? That can make your training a little more challenging. I like to recommend Barbara Heidenreich as an excellent source of training knowledge. Her program is all positive reinforcement, something she calls "force free." She's great. You can see from her site that she sells books and DVD's, but if you get on her email list you'll get useful free tips as well. www.goodbirdinc.com/index.html She also has a number of youtube videos out there.
Training is an excellent way to build a bond. Just a couple tips for you: When you start, take them somewhere out of sight of their cage(s), which they might feel obligated to protect. Break the desired behavior down into little incremental steps, work on each step and let them master it before adding the next increment, and reward them lavishly. Have fun!

Welcome to the Forum! Training usually goes more smoothly when the parrots are completely comfortable with their human companions. In the beginning, it's a good idea to just get better acquainted with each other. Concentrate on helping your new Quakers settle in and get comfortable with you and their new home, work on building a bond with your new QPs, then go to work on training.
