Hi, everyone-- our little Barnaby appears to be heading into adolescence, or so I've been suspecting. I've noticed a definite increase in the quantity of biting lately, and today I suspect xe might have been masturbating [Barnaby has not been DNA'd, so we are using gender-neutral pronouns]. It's just the 2 humans and the bird in our place, so my fear is that Barnaby's bond with me will turn into a sexual one, which I needless to say DO NOT WANT. Given that we're unable to bring a partner for xym home, how do we encourage healthy behavior and avoid sexualizing a relationship with the humans in the flock?

Hi barnabysmom, spring brings more daylight and that can start hormones going in parrots of all ages. Casey was 14 before they kicked in at full force Like you we have two people in the house and he chose to fly at my husband for attention even though I am the one who cares for him. When that happened I started putting him to bed earlier and for a few days I didn’t feed him any of our cooked food. I just kept him on his pellets. That turned him around right away.
