Hi, I have had Poppit for about a year.Had a lot of biting problems, still nips a few times.Hates hands but will climb on my arm or shoulder.Anyway the reason for writing in this forum is in the last week or two he has changed. He started checking out his cage where usually he stays on front perch.Today I actually caught him on his swing, and then climbing upside down around his cage.HE HAS NEVER done this EVER BEFORE.I was so happy I nearly cried. What has changed for him to start venturing around his cage. Its like something just snapped in his little head and realised there were kool things to play with. I’ve always had lots of toys in his cage but only NOW he’s seen them and actually played with them. Its taken a year for him to do this.Always thought he’d never change, but he did and I’m stoked.

Yay! That’s great news! Parrots do things at their own pace and your post will give hope to people trying to get their Quaker to settle in. I am so happy for you!

Parrots are full of surprises and Poppit gave you a pleasant one. It can take time for a parrot to think things through and to accept something like the swing that they had doubts about. My adopted African grey is a cautious girl and it took her four years to start climbing up, down and around in her cage, and she now does it every day, at high speed. If you introduce any new toys in Poppit's cage, try playing with them yourself first while he watches you to show Poppit what to do with them, and he might be quicker to play with them himself.
