I have a bird question for you guys. Chewy has always loved my grandson jayce who is 8. He would be super excited when he came over and would prefer to be with him. Last week when jayce came over chewy was attacking him immediately and biting him when jayce tried to pick him up as he usually does. Chewy was being actively aggressive to him. He did it again yesterday when jayce came over. I am always supervising them so I don’t think anything bad happened between the two. Chewy just turned 5 months old. Could he be going through hormones or something? He seems fine with everyone else tho.

Parrots sometimes will take a sudden dislike to someone they've always liked before-- or may suddenly decide that a person they didn't care for is now their best friend. It's hard to figure out why this happens, and the parrot may just as abruptly change back. Sometimes a change in affection can be set off by something the once favored person is wearing that the parrot doesn't like, or a new hairstyle. 5 months is a bit early for hormones to kick in, but it's not out of the question. For a while, maybe Jayce could interact with Chewy while Chewy is in his cage. The routine followed with a newly acquired parrot could help them become friends again. Jayce could sit calmly near Chewy's cage and talk softly to him so that they can get reacquainted. No guarantee that it will work, but it's worth a try.

When Casey was a baby he loved everyone, at sometime in that first year he didn’t. At that point he picked two people and no one else Cnyguy gives good advice hopefully trying again slowly will work. If Jayce happened to give any reaction to the bite, Chewy would have loved seeing the reaction and will continue to try to hear that screech again. So when he does eventually try he will need to be brave and not react Hopefully in time it will work out

Thanks!! Yesterday chewy sat on Jayce’s shoulder and groomed him like he used to do while I was at work. My husband was supervising. But then when I got home chewy reverted to biting him again. We will take is slow and easy like y’all said. I really hope he likes him again because jayce really loves him.

Since Chewy got along fine with Jayce while you weren't around, I suspect jealousy may be at work. Chewy may be trying to keep Jayce away from you, or you away from Jayce. For now, you may want to restrict Jayce's interaction with Chewy to the times you aren't there.
