Hello all, I am considering buying an African Grey for my sons first birthday. Although it would be for him, my wife and I will take care of the new addition to the family until our kids get old and sensible enough to help out. I am considering purchasing our African Grey (female) from B-T Parrorts in Cwmbran, Newport Wales and a large Liberta corner cage from Ebay Item no: 130432141433. We plan to place the cage in our conservatory which is the room linked to our living room. I have never had a bird before but have had kept large dogs (French Mastiffs) and cats in a past life and we currently share our home with my daughters goldfish. My kids are 10 months and 3.5 years old, and we want our African Grey to grow with us and be a part of the family. Any advice will be well received about the reputation of BT Parrots and also the cage I have seen on ebay and also any tips for a newbie will be appreciated. What can you say about this article cockatielreview.com I think it's useful, I found a lot of information here. Many thanks.

Welcome! Greys are very demanding so you should be prepared to add the equivalent to another toddler to your household. A Grey will require lots of your time and attention. They are very intelligent and quite sensitive, and often tend to be nervous. My adopted Grey Scooter likes things to be calm and quiet around her and she doesn't accept change well. Those characteristics are often found in Greys. Do lots of research and reading so you'll know if a Grey would be right for you before committing to welcoming one into your home. I'm not a big fan of the corner cages since it's a little more difficult to arrange perches and toys in that style cage. They also have somewhat less room for a large parrot to move around than a traditional rectangular cage. I'm not familiar with BT Parrots or their reputation. Good luck to you in making your decision.

I honestly would not recommend an African Grey for your first bird. What are your reasons for wanting one? If we know this, maybe we can help you find a less demanding parrot. I'm sorry for being less than positive, but I want you to have an enjoyable coexistence with your first parrot, and vice versa. 😊
