Hello! I’m excited to have found this site! I work in a zoo and someone dropped off a two month old Quaker bird because they thought he was “retarded”. I brought him home with me. After giving him a good meal, the head shaking stopped. I learned that was his way of asking for food. He now has an awesome cage home with lots of toys that he seems to love. I haven’t noticed any odd behavior. He does chew excessively but it seems this is normal Quaker behavior? When I am home he comes out of the cage and hangs with me. I have so much to learn and I’m planning to read all through this site. Thanks!!

Welcome! I'm sure your new QP loves his new home. Some parrots like to chew things up, some not so much. If your parrot is a chewer, provide him with plenty of bird-safe things to chew. That will keep him busy and help keep him from chewing things he shouldn't.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like that young quaker is lucky to have found you! Casey loves to shred wood toys. He prefers stars and maple leaves since they have points to start chewing on I guess

Thanks! I’m the lucky one tho. I’m kind of obsessed with him. Chewy chews EVERYTHING! Lol. Including me. I’ve gotten him to pretty much stop chewing on my hand but when he sits on my neck he chews on it. He’ll get a tiny little piece of skin and nip it. I’m about to do a search on here about that along with his tendency to shake his head no frequently.

Our Bonnie doesn't chew a great deal, but she does like to 'attack' things and nip them. The head bobbing is something that tends to be a baby behaviour and it will decrease as Chewy gets older - unfortunate, as it does look so cute! Although our Bonnie bobs her head and flaps when we are playing a game, or if she is uncertain of something she hasn't seen before. She is 6 years 9 months old now. I think the baby behaviour returns at odd times depending on circumstances. Hope you enjoy the Forum and there is a LOT of information on here if you have the time to read it. The search function can be useful.
