My love bird is preening me, pulling even arm hairs. Help!! It hurts

The first time my QP Ralph was taken out of his cage at the pet store to meet me he began pulling hairs out of my arm. It does hurt. There are two things that are usually recommended to curb such overpreening: distract the parrot with something, usually a toy; take the parrot to another location (cage, playstand) and leave him there for a while. One or the other often works.
