How do your birds react when a new human comes over? We had a workman in today and Rocky, trembling, said "hello." Fortunately, the guy likes critters and he said "hello" back and whistled to him and admired his good looks. He had to go into the small parrots' room, where Clyde, slicked down, sat on my shoulder and said "pretty bird" over and over, while Freddie went to the curtain rod and spread his wings in his "eagle" pose ("Look how big and intimidating I am!"). They don't meet a lot of people because most of the people we know don't want to listen to Rocky's shrieking and don't come over, so that's part of it, but I just wondered if mine were uneasy because they don't see a lot of new people or because they're birds.

Casey loves seeing new people, she listens and when they are talking she joins in. She goes through her repertoire until they start to interact with her. She chooses who she will step up for and who she says no way with a bite. Our house is fairly busy. People seldom hear her say good bye as she usually says it happily after they have left.

Ralph has to observe anyone he doesn't know for a while and decide if he approves of them or not. If he does, then he'll let them approach his cage, but he doesn't usually say anything to anyone he doesn't know well. Scooter, with her normally nervous disposition, tries to hide in a corner of her cage but keeps a watchful eye on anyone unfamiliar. If they approach her cage she gets upset and growls. My brother had to visit several times before she decided it was safe to be around him.

Rocky has some sort of grudge against my brother and juggling him to keep him from charging and attacking is quite a chore. Usually Rocky has to be locked in his cage, which means of course that he complains and shrieks. I have no idea why he doesn't like my brother, who loves animals and has a menagerie of his own. He must look like someone who was mean to him in his troubled past.

Oh, I am SO envious...Bonnie won't even talk in front of us anymore, let alone in front of strangers/visitors. She turns into a stuffed bird alternating with squawking. Nowadays she only says the words she knows when we are at the other end of the house.
