Hi all !! My name is Debbie and I first joined this forum back in 2006 when I adopted my rescue QP at 8 months age. Skye is a blue Quaker and was a cute snuggle bug and getting used to my handling him and although he could bite he tried not to. From the start I checked with your forum for best food staples-Zupreen all the time and a morning serving of small amount of fruit and veggie.
In the beginning I was giving him seed and nut mashes as well but then realized by reading here that fatty liver could occur and so I stopped. Unfortunately, I did not realize that they can hold things against you. Too late I read that it was not advised to cut their nails or feathers yourself because they will hold the unpleasant experience against you. And after bundling him into a towel and clipping his nails his entire personality changed. And he would no longer let me snuggle and was a lot more bitey. And I have never gotten him to forgive me completely.
But he is my funny little feathered guy, with a lot of funny phrases and his comical laugh and fake-sympathetic cough whenever I cough. He is 9 yrs old now and a sweety, but I miss my snuggles. When he wants a bathe he will say"Skye's a dirty bird"' and when he teases my dog Simon and I scold him he will say "I'm a baaaaad bird" or "Skye's a baaaaad bird" LOL and I try not to laugh....And when I vacuum he says every word and phrase he knows. It took me months when I first got him to find a way that he wanted to bathe-he finely jumped into my big dogs cermanic water dish as I was filling it.So he washed in the dog dish a year and slowly transitioned into the sink and he will ask for a bath.
He had an addiction to bells on footy toys and bells hanging as well. And it has twice saved his life. While living in MD I lived in the country on a acre of land with few trees. I had forgotten he was sitting on my shoulder and was in the sunroom opening the door for my dogs and out he flew!! And out over my acre into the woods beyond. My only thought was to get his bell and pacifier footy toy and by the time I came out I had no clue where he was. I called out his name and a little voice called out "Momma?" in the maple tree next to my bedroon. I shook his bell and down he came to my arms!! Which I immediately swooped him up in my t-shirt
