Hey all Recently i've noticed that my quaker parrot squawks sometimes when I'm not near him (eg when i'm on my computer) I can't really tell what he means by this its kind of a REEHH sound but not full on screaming
He's flock calling. He wants to know where you are and to be reassured that you're all right. It's normal parrot behavior. In the wild, parrots in a flock will keep track of each other by calling to each other. With our companion parrots, it's best to respond in some way. You might say something like "Here I am," or you could whistle or make a sound of some sort. With my two parrots, I reply with a clicking sound, and do it the same way each time. That satisfies them that I'm safe and nearby.
Cnyguy is right. Couldn't say it any better myself. Loki has obviously made a connection with you and wants you around all the time. Our Bonnie does the flock call when I leave the room and go somewhere in the house she can't see me. I whistle to her or say "It's OK". It doesn't guarantee that she will stop, but it is what it is!
