I saw some alpaca slippers (like bunny slippers but the faces are alpacas; they're not MADE of alpacas!) at Walmart and couldn't resist. Bought them, took them home, put them on and Rocky 'Too went ballistic. Actually ran at my feet to attack. Drat. They're comfy, too! And I can't wear them because Rocky doesn't like them! Yesterday, I tried again and this time, Rocky didn't seem to care. Never even looked at them. Hooray!
Except then I took Rocky with me to the little birds' room to watch videos and ... Clyde freaked out. Clyde didn't quite attack, but he was unhappy, and that translates into the Angry Quaker Squawk and chomping Mama's neck (why he chomps my NECK, I don't know, he's a vampire). Suddenly Rocky seemed to notice the slippers and HE freaked out. Freddie's the only one who doesn't care, but Freddie is perpetually cheerful and not much bothers him.
So, I took them off again. It's November in Illinois and slippers are preferable to socks on cold floors, but socks it is. I'll try the slippers again later and maybe they'll get used to them. If not, I guess my toes will just be cold.

It's usually best to discuss purchases of that kind with the parrots before actually buying the item. That could stave off the kind of reaction you got from Clyde and Rocky. I need new slippers too, and found some blue corduroy ones at a low price, and told the parrots about them. Scooter just told me there was a bird in her water, but I got a definite negative graaaccckkk! from Ralph, so I didn't buy them. If I had bought them, I don't doubt that I would have met with the same disapproval you got from Rocky and Clyde.

I really should have done that. They don't have cell phones, so I couldn't call and ask first and they only had one pair in my size, so I took the chance. Stupid of me. I should have just bought another pair exactly like last year's worn out pair and been done with it.

Under the cicumstances, you could be excused for buying the slippers without the birds' approval. I suppose you can try to get the parrots to accept the slippers. It could happen. Sticking with the old style slippers is probably the best solution though. That's what I'll end up doing, once I find a pair of decent moccasins in my size at a reasonable price.

You COULD resort to subterfuge. Disguise the slippers so they can't see the Alpacas' faces - you could attach the tops of the worn-out pair from last year....although I must point out that you had this coming (as Gary very tactfully inferred) from neglecting to discuss the matter first with your Masters. Thankfully we don't have this problem in Darwin; no need for slippers here and I only possess two jumpers (and they are for when we visit Victoria, where it's colder).
