I've got three parrots now - Yoshi the Quaker who is almost 4 years old, Melly the Sun Conure who is 3, and Linq the Turqoise Conure, who is almost 1.5 years old. I got Linq last Fall, and he was 5 months old when I got him. The breeder I purchased him from said he was previously hand tame, but that the breeder hasn't worked with him in a while (he was not hand tame when I purchased him). I worked with him, and it wasn't long at all before I had him hand tame.
Yoshi and Melly get along just fine. Well, Yoshi tolerates Melly, he would be just fine on his own. Melly loves Yoshi, however, and wants to be beside him most of the day. They do a little bickering here and there if they get annoyed with the other, but it's just a scream or two - no biting. Linq on the other hand, he tries to attack Yoshi often, if I have all of them in the same area. He tries to get to Melly, but Melly runs away (and despite being clipped, she can fly from one end of the house to the other before exhausting). Yoshi, however, stands his ground. Despite Yoshi weighing almost twice as much as Linq, both of them stand their ground and neither back down, and the fighting is intense. I usually get some nasty marks on my fingers when I break them up.
On top of this, Linq gets a little mean with me when he doesn't get his way. I try to spend one on one time with him, but he gets bored being on my shoulder very easily, and wants to start biting at freckles and such on my neck and face. When I try to stop him he bites my finger. At this point I'm forced to take him back to his cage to prevent him from hurting me. I thought he would eventually grow out of this stuff, but he's almost 1.5 years old now.
Due to this, Linq spends almost all day, every day, in or on top of his cage. He gets a fraction of the time with me as the other birds. I do make sure I make time to do focused training with him at least every other day, and I make sure I include him if I'm handing out treats. I'm kind of at a loss about how to deal with him. I feel really bad that he gets left out so much, and has to watch Yoshi and Melly play on the playstand, or spend time with me, from inside his cage.
Sorry for the wall of text. Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences like this, or has any advice? I appreciate it!
