Hi
Well I thought I would share a quick post to let you know how we are getting on with Cody. We've had him for two weeks now and there is a massive difference with him. He was tame but not hand reared so when we first got him he wasnt too sure of us and wouldnt come up to us let alone be touched or take food etc
Now, two weeks later he's got a lovely new cage with a swing, 5 perches and 4 feeding bowls. The cage he came in was tiny so we needed to change it for him. The only difference is the roof on the new one doesnt open which he went absolutely mental about for a few days. He's figured out how to open both the doors now though! Hes so clever!
He's out of his cage nearly all day now as we work from home which is great. The dogs are now used to him and completely ignore him even if he decides to have a fly around. The biggest breakthrough is that he will now hop onto my arm - he still seems to really not like fingers and hands, but as soon as I covered up and let him jump onto my sleeve it was completely different! He will also now take food from all of us - and has started mimicking my husband so I think we may end up with a broad Mancunian accent! Yay! Massive breakthrough.. He hates the step up stick he came with - I dont know if something happened to him with it but we decided to abandon that completely. My husband has made him a couple of play perches which are dotted around the house for when he follows us around and now that he comes and sits on our arms the step up stick seems to be a bit irrelevant? He has a bath most days and if he does go back in his cage he jumps at the sides to come and chatter if we come up to him. He's not talking yet - he mutters and makes a lot of different sounds but no words. He is now 5 months - is this normal? He has the radio on in the background all day and is in the living room or office with me all day and we talk to him in words rather than sounds to try and encourage!
The majority of his diet is fresh veg and fruit and Im slowly trying to get him over to pellets as he was on a seed based food but just taking it slowly with him. He is absolutely hilarious.
Thank you to everyone for all your advice especially in the first few days. Cody is really determined and knows exactly what he wants - it took some doing to figure out what he wanted at the start so this forum has been invaluable.
