Buddy is eating a few vegetables but not fruit. He went to work with me today and did great with all the people handling him. I just received the results from the DNA testing a few minutes ago and Buddy is a.... GIRL Now we both need to be retrained!

Neither of my parrots is crazy about fruit either. Ralph will lick a piece of apple like a kid with an ice cream cone. Both Ralph and Scooter will eat dried fruit from their seed mix (they both get a small daily ration once they've eaten their other food), but fresh fruit doesn't appeal to them. I still keep offering it and suggest you do the same. Someday maybe our parrots will find some kind of fruit they like.

I have noticed that things she wouldn't eat before she eats now so i do keep trying. I've had to throw away so much food already that I've learned to buy a little smarter. See she's training me!

Miss Buddy is doing a great job of training you-- and you seem to be a fast learner too. I don't like to think about all the uneaten food I've thrown away through all my years with parrots. But persistence does pay off, as you and Buddy have proven.

Buddy is doing very well. Your comments made me remember Casey used to love getting handled by everyone when she was young, then I am not sure when ...she didn't. She had her two favourite people in the house after that and was more shy around people she didn't know I guess just let her get used to people all the time Casey prefers more veggies than fruit too, but I think that is a good thing as too much sugar from the fruit isn't good for them Fresh strawberries are in season, she gets a small piece but she really just mushes it and eats all the seeds on them

I am concerned about Buddy not being sociable because I'm the only one in the household. Im going to try and bring her to work once a month to try and work around that but bringing all her supplies and perch to work is quite a chore.

As your workplace seems quite open to pet visits, maybe just have a permanent small setup there (a small stand with perch and dishes, or else a cage if you think she'll panic and fly around & hurt herself)? And you could have some basic food, like pellets/seeds/nuts on site, too.

I plan on bringing buddy to work once a month so i don't wear out out/her welcome so hopefully that will help.
In the last few days she had preferred her cage over coming out to visit. She even nipped me a couple times! What is this new behavior all about? Once i get her out, she is fine for awhile and then flies back to her cage. I just set up a new play stand for her this week and she's not overly receptive to it. She will sit there looking around and then just come to be with me. I thought the stand would allow her more out of cage time but now that she prefers her cage she is actually getting less. Ugh!

Max likes to come out and play or just sit for a while on the top of the cage. She never has liked the stand that I bought her to play on. I put it away along time ago because she just wouldn't have it. She likes veggies, and some fruit, but will not eat dry fruit. They all are different, and as time goes on she will show all different kinds of personality. What is good one day, may not be the next! Welcome to the world of a Quaker parent!

In my experience Quakers much prefer being with their Human Slaves rather than playing with toys or sitting on playstands...we have to teach them about that stuff.
