My original thread has gotten so long so i decided to start a new one. Buddy is doing very well with his step ups and when i come home he now squawks for me to come see him. He no longer flies away when i hold him so i think he really likes my company now. Still no luck with him taking treats but i still try different ones every day. He is playing with his toys now and eating and drinking well so I'm very pleased in that aspect. I have started his potty training by putting him on his potty perch every time i take him out and once he goes potty he is allowed to step up and get cuddled. It's going good i think! He is such a joy to watch and see what new things he does every day.

Hey, well done! You are approaching everything very logically...having said that you will come across quaker behaviours that are "built-in", but it seems like you can work it out! Oh, you have already encountered the quaker "flock call" (the squawking once he hears you come home). They are so needy! Keep trying with the treats.

Yay everything is going nice and smoothly. Casey’s favourite food is the white seeds inside a red pepper she devours them. She loves untreated pumpkin seeds Kept trying lots of things and retry because some things for them take getting used to

Yeah, pumpkin seeds are Bonnie's absolute favourite too! ...followed by seeds from any colour capsicum, ('peppers' in the US), cooked white rice, corn kernels (uncooked from the cob), cooked rice noodles, raw carrot, maybe a cashew nut too - although she seems to have gone off the nuts recently. They go through phases as far as food is concerned. But the pumpkin seeds have always been the thing she goes for first.

I bought some millet and Buddy seems to like it. He's not overly excited about it but he is eating it so hopefully i have found his favorite!
Will he get bigger or stay pretty much the size he is now at 12 weeks?

I think at 12 weeks he should be full size, did you weigh him? I have millet for my finches, it's not Casey's thing, though she will eat a few loose seeds for a treat from the finch food bag She doesn't get them very often, much easier to give her a pumpkin seed, cheerio or plain rice cake

Buddy had his first vet visit today and he did awesome! He hopped right up on the vet's finger and didn't squawk thru the whole exam. Even when they took feathers to DNA sex him he never flinched. He got a clean bill of health thank goodness and he weighs 87grams so i would say he is right on target. I'll know the sex next week. I don't really care what it is but i do want to be prepared for the egg thing if it turns out he's a she!

That will be neat to know, we call Casey a girl but she’s never laid an egg so odds are she isn’t....

Buddy deserves a special treat for behaving so well during his vet visit and it's great that the vet gave him a good report. My adopted CAG Scooter is DNA tested female and is 15 years old, and has not yet laid any eggs, but it could happen someday.

Buddy is now eating almonds and cherrios. I think he just needed to get comfortable with me before he would accept treats from me!

Well done, Jan & Buddy! He/she does deserve kudos for being so nice at the Vet. Regarding weight, Bonnie (who is a blue quaker) weighed 89 grams when we brought her home at 8 weeks old. Since reaching 'adulthood' (within 6-9 mths or so) she has always weighed between 95-105 grams. So I'd tend to agree with Caseysmom that at 12 weeks he'd be close to full weight (considering that our Bonnie only put on a maximum of 16 grams between baby weight and now, at 5 years old). Hope this helps!
