I really didn't want to do this, but I had Pickles wings clipped today. She was getting really rowdy and bitey . It may be hormonal, but otherwise she almost escaped on me one weekend down on the Cape as well.
Point being she has been so quiet today and fluffed up in a ball looking defeated. I feel terrible as though I stripped her of her dignity as an adult bird. Has anyone else noticed a change in attitude after a clipping? I hope this subject isn't too controversial

It will take a little time for Pickles to recover from the experience of having her wings clipped. She may also decide to punish you for having it done. That's pretty typical for parrots. I don't have either parrot's wings clipped-- not because I disapprove of doing so, but because it isn't practical for either Ralph or Scooter. Other parronts who have sought a behavior change by having wings clipped have often reported that the results were positive. Some have said it didn't make any real difference. Maybe someone on the Forum can weigh in with their experiences in a similar situation to yours.

When Casey was younger we clipped her wings, she was bad at flying and was always banging into things. I was told she probably had had them clipped as a baby before her first flight and hadn't learned properly. She did preen after doing it but generally didn't seem bothered. The last few years we haven't bothered doing them . She seldom flies, but when she does she is getting better at finding my hand and not getting stuck somewhere.
Also as a precaution, a clipped bird could still manage to get away, a breeze and a lift in the wind and they can still fly

Hi! We haven't had Bonnie's wings clipped, so unfortunately I don't have any insights for you...but I just want to say welcome and I am sure whatever you decide to do will work out.

Thanks for your responses. She does seem to be a lot more demure which is a GOOD thing

Hi! We clip Max's wings about once a year. She seems to calm down and not even try to fly afterwards. She doesn't mind having them clipped, and I feel better about it. Whatever you decide will be the right thing for your baby!

I am starting to seriously consider wing clipping as an option for Bonnie...she has been attacking hubby every time he lets her out. Today she latched onto his back (no shirt on, as we live in Darwin, Australia) and wouldn't let go. There's a nasty wound. We don't understand why she is doing this. She was always a bit more aggro towards him than me, but it also may be due to us moving house a few weeks ago. I dunno...
