Hi everyone! I am so excited to be getting a baby quaker. I have had birds before but never a baby and never a quaker. I wont get him for another eight weeks so i have time to plan properly. Any suggestions are wanted and appreciated!

Happy to have you join us on the Forum! No doubt you'll be counting off the days for the next 8 weeks. This article on the companion site, quakerparrots.com, has some ideas about preparing for a new QP. I'd also suggest reading a good book about QPs, like Mattie Sue Athan's Guide to the Quaker Parrot. The posts on the Forum will have some suggestions for you too. Read all you can about QPs during the next few weeks. Of course, you'll want to get the cage set up with perches, food and water dishes and a few toys (not too many at first-- you don't want to overwhelm the new baby). Lay in a supply of quality food too-- at first, you may want to stick with what the breeder has been feeding. Make sure your house is parrot proof, as best you can, eliminating anything that could pose a potential hazard to your parrot.
