Hello! I am new here and also to Quaker Parrots. I adopted a 6 year old Quaker named Rio. After going back and forth on which parrot I wanted, I chose the Quaker. I got her and basically wasn't told much besides she didn't bond with anyone. She had an owner who left her a lot due to his job. He said she had also laid eggs at one point from being bored and alone. I love her and respect her,but I am kinda in over my head. It has been around 6 months that I have had her. She first started out by attacking all of us in the house. Then one day she I guess "Bonded" with me and she now bites everyone but me. My question is how can she bond with my partner and daughter? The other thing is she is scared of everything! She will growl and scream at brooms, sticks, water bottles....anything! Again I don't know her past very well so Im not sure how she was treated. Any advice would be amazing. I will admit her screaming and growling makes it hard to calm her down or have anyone else in the room with me. Also when I first got her, her neck was badly plucked. She now has a very puffy and healthy feathers.

Welcome to you and Rio. The companion site, quakerparrots.com, has several articles that might help you. I'd also suggest some good books like Mattie Sue Athan's Guide to the Quaker Parrot and Guide to Companion Parrot Behavior. Read through some of the Forum posts and you'll find some useful information and helpful hints.
