hi we were new Quaker parrot owners. We just lost her tonight: she showed no signs of sickness until she sneezed/coughed a little bloody sputum: brought her to vet; they pried open her mouth to check it and proceeded to tell my son she just started bleeding from her eyes. How can a perfectly , healthy , pain in the but😏 pretty baby be dead?... could the vet have squeezed her too hard? What would cause her eyes to bleed? We are devastated: my son is having such a hard time blaming himself. He is so grief stricken

Oh, I am so sorry...please tell your son it is not his fault. Sometimes these things just happen and we don't know why. Based on your comment about the bloody sputum prior to the vet visit, I would think the vet was not to blame. She could have had some sort of condition you didn't know about. I've never heard of this sort of thing in quakers before. Again, I am so sorry. I am not sure what to say to make the situation easier, except that you and your son did everything you could and you had no way of knowing the cause. You could always request an autopsy if you really want to know the cause - it depends if that would mean more stress for you or not. Thinking of you.

So sorry about Freya. It seems probable that she had an illness that either had been hidden or simply came on suddenly, without warning. No one is to blame for that. Parrots can suffer similar illnesses to humans, such as a stroke or aneurysm that could cause bleeding from the nose or eyes. Something of that sort could not have been predicted or prevented. A necropsy could determine just what happened. My sympathy to you and your son.

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!
Most birds are flock animals, they rely on their flock to survive, and flock members who show sickness are driven out because they draw the attention of predators. Because of this, they're experts at hiding illnesses until they can't.
What happened to your baby is not your son's fault. I don't think it was anyone's fault, sometimes things just happen. It doesn't do much good to ask why, because unless you had a necropsy done there won't be an answer.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.
