Is taking a nap during the day a good or bad thing?
If the bird naps, will he be up during the night while we're sleeping?

Some parrots will take a nap during the day, and will still sleep through the night-- though it isn't unusual for a parrot to get up in the night for a drink of water or a snack. If I'm home with them, neither of my parrots nap in the daytime, but I suspect that they may rest awhile if I'm not home to help entertain them. As he got older (50+), my old Amazon parrot George used to sleep for an hour or so every day in the afternoon and slept normally at night.

Bonnie has a phase each afternoon around 1:30-2:00pm when she gets dozy. Her little eyes close and she literally droops on her perch - very cute. She stays that way for up to an hour, then suddenly wakes up and becomes an active cartoon bird again! There are, seemingly, no ill effects or ramifications from it.

Mine take quick snoozes during the day. They're aren't really sound asleep, just dozing, but they all do it a couple of times a day.

5 mo old Gracie usually naps around mid-afternoon. She also knows if I nap and she will get quiet and rest during that time as well. Very sweet.

Forgot to add that her naps don't keep her up at night. Like a child, when I cover her cage at night and tell her its time for bed, she fusses at me a couple minutes then it's silence all night long.
