I'm curious if anyone else has noticed their birds displaying behaviors like this.
When Yoshi gets frustrated, if events occur such as me sitting near him eating and him wanting some, or him wanting my attention when I'm otherwise engaged, he displays a unique behavior. He reaches his left foot back and grabs ahold of feathers right underneath his tail.
When he first started doing this, I kept thinking something back there was bothering him. I even asked his vet about it at his last checkup, and she was stumped. Over time, I came to realize he only does this in certain situations, where he seems to be frustrated.
Likewise, Melly has a similar behavior when she wants out of her cage and thinks I'm ignoring her (such as when I first get home from school, and need to put away my backpack and change into bird clothes and such before getting her out). She will perch on her food bowl, grab ahold of the metal rim with her beak, and flap her wings, followed by a scream. She only does this when she seems to be frustrated.

I can't say that I've ever seen Ralph do that-- nor any other parrot. When Ralph is frustrated, he just Quaker curses. Scooter the CAG will usually growl when she's frustrated.

I've not seen this either. When Gracie gets frustrated she crouches down low, sticks her neck way out and proceeds to scream at me in decibles I expect to break glass. I wonder if Melly learned the behavior from Yoshi and this is just Yoshi's way?

It seems like vocalization is how most normal parrots express feelings and emotions. My Yoshi isn't normal . He rarely ever screams. He will contact call me when I go to another room, but that's about it. Melly on the other hand...my neighbors can hear her. My parents live across the street and can hear her all the way over there. If I ever have to move to an apartment I don't know what I'm going to do with her!

Bonnie doesn't do this either, just does her most objectionable squawk and jumps onto the cage bars to try and bite me if I get too close. (This is in between being a marshmallow and purring during head scratches...go figure).
