As some of you may have read in my other posts, Bonnie has a fetish for ripping the keys off my laptop (resulting in several of them missing their backings and sticking up at odd angles...of course, they happen to be the ones I use most, like the Delete, Esc and F1 keys).
Today I thought I'd safeguard my laptop whilst ducking outside to the outdoor aviary, so I put an open book over the keyboard. "Haha, foiled again, Bonnie", I thought...
Not so! In the 30 seconds I was outside she'd managed to push aside the corner of the book and was just starting to shred the rubber skin I now have covering the laptop keys. :oI put a heavier book over the keyboard, thinking no more of it.
About 10 minutes later I returned to the computer to find that, due to 'Her Rudeness', the Caps Lock key and the z key were on an angle and held down by the weight of the 2nd book I'd put on there. I now had 38 pages of 'ZZZZZ' to backtrack through and get rid of in time to submit my essay online (due today). Thanks, Bonnie!
So, beware of the perils (and roll-on effects) of QPs in the proximity of laptops...

Wow, she sounds like a stinker. Sounds like you need to just put a box or something over it when not in use. Maybe that would help.

oh no! My wife Debbie had 2 laptop keyboards ruined by our flock! It does not take them long to tear into the keyboard and make off with the keys! we have a new 'puter now but Debbie only uses it when the birdies are in their cages as they are allowed to fly around (supervised) for several hours each evening. When its "fly time" Debbie just puts the computer in a closet for the duration As we all know those beaks are quite a machine if left unwatched... Kevin

I had a good laugh at that. These are very clever little creatures and once their mind is made up, there is no stopping them.

Maybe we could start a new business-- buy up a lot of unneeded keyboards, and market them as parrot toys.

For sure! Actually, I blame myself because I thought Bonnie had lost interest (she ignored the keyboard a few times), so I wasn't as diligent as usual. Little did I know she was just planning a covert operation...and I fell for it. Lesson learned. Hi Kevin & Sno! Cnyguy, great idea re used keyboards. Yes, we could start a whole new line!

hmmm, good thing Casey can't read, she might get new ideas, so far my keyboard is intact, though my friend is always missing pieces off hers as she has bigger parrots

Just learn to remember to CLOSE the computer...as in, put the lid down!!! Caillou once denuded half my keyboard when I left the room for a few minutes, leaving the computer open. Lesson learned.

Hi fig, yes you are right, now I put the lid down EVERY single time. Unfortunately Bonnie's new favourite place to sit is now the top of the screen on my open laptop while I am typing. Her tail obscures the centre of the screen, punctuated occasionally by poop running down it (as it seems to also be her favourite place to poop....sigh). Sometimes she attempts a flanking manoeuvre from the floor, up the power cord to the side of the laptop - where she APPEARS to get distracted by the enticing USB ports and makes a token effort to dismantle them - then, always the opportunist, lunges for the keyboard yet again

One day, I came home from work, to find that Rascal had escaped his cage. Luckily the laptop was closed. But he had taken apart the wireless mouse and tv remote. The batteries were half way out of both devices.

Sounds like Rascal is well-named and way too smart!

You are right about Rascal's name. I forgot to close the laptop this morning. Rascal managed to found a new way out of his cage. Yeah there are keys everywhere. Even took off the space bar. And put the computer in airplane mode.

What, really? You forgot to close it? Maybe you need to investigate other cages for Rascal or else gaffer tape him to his perch.

Looks like I am going to have to tape him to the perch This is his second cage. He broke the bars on his first cage. I have been using quick links to lock all the doors on his cage. Guess I am going to padlocks now. Our other quaker, Sugar, has a flimsy cage and has never escaped it. Their names really fit their personalities.

I wonder if there are 'muzzles' for birds...you know, like they put over dogs' noses. That would stop them escaping and biting you, but I guess they wouldn't be able to eat. Hmm, must apply my peanut-sized brain to this situation.
