Hello forum: I am very new to the Q. world..."inherited" Kaleibird about 5 1/2 mos. ago from niece who could not keep "her" because she feared she was gone too much from home and KB would be adversely affected. "She" turned out to be a "he" b/c I had him sexed by Vet. (I have a cockatiel, ("Frankie", over 30 yrs. old now...very smart...my husband found him years ago), so I know a bit about birds. To mention, my niece said "Kaleibird" (Kellybird at the time) talked and wrote down words said...but I'll swear to you, if he says them, I must be deaf!! "Frankie" however, came to us well-versed in his cockatiel way, full of traits and things that are funny!
MY PROBLEM WITH THE QUAKER: HE has done well here so far, altho' I have not noticed his eating alot...then...in the last few months, he has given off a "funky" odor...I notice when near the cage. (yes, he's had baths!) It is not a bad smell, but prevanlent! I took a stool sample to Vet. yesterday and it was normal. Kaleibird goes for apptment tomorrow; however I would like some input into this problem BEFORE I start spending large amts. of $$ with the Vet. Any help out there? Kalei's mom

Welcome to the Forum. The vet visit is the best advice I could offer. I don't know of any other QPs who have Kaelibird's problem, so it's important to find out if some illness may be the underlying cause. All the best to you and Kaleibird. If you talk to him a lot, Kaleibird may be more inclined to say something to you. Since you have a list of things he's supposed to say, say them to him often and see if you get any reaction.
