I am a very proud owner of a mated pair. I first got my blue male from a rescue where he was in a cage with Gretta. I had Parry for about a month, and even though we bonded rather quickly, he seemed so sad. After doing more research on mated pairs, it came to my attention that these birds mate for life. long and wonderful story short, I went and picked up Pare Pare's mate.
So anyway Gretta is adjusting very well to our family, but I haven't had her long enough to know, why she is sleeping, or staying in her cave so late in the day. This did just start when it started getting dark earlier. I have only had these two a little over a year so just wondering if this is normal?

Welcome to the Forum! I'm not sure about why Gretta wants to go to sleep so early; it could be related to nesting/breeding behaviors. Has she been seen by an avian certified vet recently? It's always a good idea to take a new parrot for a well-bird checkup soon after bringing the bird home.

Welcome to the Forum! Where are you in the world? Your location might make a difference to the behaviour you've observed.

Welcome! I agree with cnyguy - its always a good idea to take a new bird to the vet for a checkup, especially if you observe behavior you dont understand.
If health problems are ruled out, it could Gretta is still adjusting to a new environment, mating behavior (if she sleeping more than Parry), not enough enrichment in her cage.
Would be interested to know how they are doing now, since it's been several months. Please give us an update.
