Hello from Oklahoma USA! I am new to forums in general. We have a Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo that we adopted over a year ago. Archie is a joy to us! But he is more of a Daddy's boy than a Momma's boy so we have decided to add a beautiful Lutino male Quaker to our family in hopes that he will be more bonded to me. Barnaby is almost 6 weeks old. Hatch date is July 30th, 2018. I am getting him from a very reputable breeder who is still hand feeding him. He will hopefully be ready to come home the first week of October. So first question: About what age do the babies start flying? The breeder told be yesterday that he took off flying around her living room!! So she clipped his wings which I wanted done anyway. I thought he was too young to fly! Thank you! I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts.

Welcome to you, Barnaby and Archie. Happy to have you join us on the Forum. Apparently, a QP can fly at about 5 weeks old, as Barnaby seems to have demonstrated. I'm not sure what is the typical age for baby QPs to begin taking flight; maybe Barnaby is a child prodigy, or possibly he's a typical Quaker. I'm sure you're counting the days until you get to bring him home.

Hi and welcome to you and your flock! We got our Bonnie at about 8 weeks old and she had just started to fly when we brought her home. We were told 8 weeks is about standard, but obviously some quakers can fly a bit earlier than that! Enjoy the Forum!
