Jade holds the title of Miss Cage Aggressive in perpetuity, and usually when I do a scrub-down cleaning (as opposed to just changing paper and such), we have a battle royal over my moving her cage around and scrubbing it.
Yesterday, I did all four cages in that room, complete with reaching inside and doing serious scrubbing. Jade sat on top of her cage and bobbed her head and occasionally said something encouraging like "Good girl!" but didn't interfere even when I scrubbed off her favorite perch. She even scooted out of the way when I was scrubbing the top and needed to get the spot where she'd been standing. Wait, who are you and what have you done with my REAL bird?
When I was done -- without a single bite! -- I said, "You were really a good girl, Jade" and she bobbed her head even harder and started yelling, "Jade a good girl! Jade a GOOD girl! JADE A GOOD GIRL!" until Clyde chimed in and said it, too. Sheesh, you want a medal for not biting me while I performed maid duties for you?

Sheesh, you want a medal for not biting me while I performed maid duties for you? Of course she does. And maybe she did earn one for her good behavior. You deserve some kind of recognition too for somehow avoiding being chomped while cleaning Jade's house.

You must give me some tips. Bonnie turns from Jekyll to Hyde when I touch her cage, even when it's only changing her food dishes. YOU deserve the medal! Hopefully Jade will remember this, otherwise...anyone know Bird Hypnosis?

You know, I can't touch Jade except her beak and then only when she invites me (hard to describe, but I recognize the body language). That's how I "kiss" her. She's always been really aggressive and her cage was once forbidden territory, so changing paper, filling dishes, anything like that meant I was going to look like I'd gone a few rounds with a buzz saw. I finally decided I was just going to have to grit my teeth, take the bites, and try to desensitize her. Figured if I did it often enough and the world didn't end, she'd get the picture, and it worked. I took a LOT of bites first, though. Eventually, she realized I was just changing paper and filling dishes, not stealing her stuff. For her birthday a couple of years ago, I emptied her cage and threw away her worn out toys and stuff and replaced them with all new stuff, and she thought that was pretty cool. It wasn't easy to get it all done, but we managed it, she and I, and she didn't bite, though she lunged a lot. Now this cleaning job on Monday when she didn't even lunge. She asked "whatcha doin'?" several times. She had to sit RIGHT THERE and supervise. But no bites or lunges.
