We own a (guessing) 7-8 year old quaker parrot we named Jack (full name is Captain Jack Fluffypants). He was a rescue, but we are unsure of his history. He came from a "pet store" that only does rescues and rehomes. He lived there around 6 months. We have always wanted a bird so we adopted him to go with our menagerie of animals (dogs, cats, guinea pigs).
Jack has always been a bit aggressive- nipping here and there. We had him about a month and he flew from his perch- the puppy wanted to play and jumped at him, breaking his leg. We took him to an exotic vet and they attempted to put a pin in his leg, but the bone shattered. They gave us the choice of amputation or euthanasia- we decided to give him the chance to live. The vet said his chances for living would depend on "perching"- he perched as soon as we got him home.
He is a feisty little thing and has definitely chosen me as is person. You cannot hold Jack without using a glove- he is uncomfortable on a bare hand because he has to use his beak to step up. He bites and lunges at people as they go by... there is just not much to do to correct his behavior. He seems healthy and happy- he makes a huge mess and talks a good bit- step up, what?, whatcha doin?, where's Coco, Nollie, bless you, thank you, Jack-Bird,pretty bird, give kisses, etc.
Looking forward to learning more about our little fluffy man...

Welcome to you and Jack. It sounds like he's not a quitter, nor are you. As long as he has a loving home (as he now has!) he is in a better situation than before. Looking forward to hearing your stories about him. Cheers!

Welcome to you and Jack ! Fluffy pants hahah..i call my lil guy Mr puffs once in a while when he's content..for the moment, and puffed out. Quakers it seems are strong willed birds, and I'm sure he is too. Had my guy buddy since a baby, now 17 months. He too lunges at me,especially when he's sitting on my girlfriends shoulder, but does so even on his perch. Just a thing they do out of habit it seems, but more so now that he's molting. When she leaves for work tho,we are best of friends! Sounds like jack has really taken to you and feels the love and attention he's now getting. I'd bet he settles down and comes out of the protection phase soon. Best wishes to you both !
