Hi I'm Laura, I'm a proud new Quaker companion, for about five weeks. I got my blue quaker Neptune when he was seven weeks old, DNA tested to be a boy. He was fully weaned, early ( I guess?) but weaned by Abundance. I had been receiving picture updates from breeder. He is 12 weeks now, and has learned to say many things already! I would love to to show him off in pic but not sure how to attach them?

Thanks for the welcome! And picture help, no Facebook, but I will look into Photobucket. I want to show off my pretty boy! I also have a six year old cinnamon teal green cheek conure ( I think that's her color morph) I had her DNA tested and that's why I chose a male quaker. Hoping they would be better buddies that way. They have separate cages, but love each other when they are out, preen, play, and eat together. Do any of you have mixed parrot buddies? I also have two parakeets who get along great with my conure, but my Quaker doesn't seem trustworthy with them yet... frankly the only time he was out with them he lunged at them and hissed....I haven't had the nerve to try that again...

Someone else besides me who's not a Facebook fanatic. I do have two parrots-- my QP Ralph and my adopted African Grey Scooter. They aren't really best friends and don't interact with each other too much other than vocally. They get separate out-of-cage time; it's much easier for me to keep track of one parrot at a time, and I doubt that they would really like being together outside their cages. One time Ralph landed on top of Scooter's cage and she lunged at him, so they might have a few squabbles if I let them out together. I think that there have been some issiues with Photobucket and some Forum members have used other photo-hosting sites. Maybe one of them will chime in to tell about it.

Laura. .there should be plenty out there on the web I think, but maybe the best is contacting a rescue operator nearby. There's a special place in heaven for someone so dedicated to welcome a rescue pet into their household...could be a game changer in that she will have plenty of birdie company. My daughter rescued 2 rabbits, both were neglected and are doing great. My son 2 cats and both are healthy today as well. Birds maybe a different story in that some behavior is hard to reverse..going thru a bit of that now with my lil guy buddy. You have the room? You have the will? You have the time and the passion..I'd go for it. Didn't realize before I latched onto buddy as a fledgling ,that there were so many rescue birds out there, but wasn't exposed to it either being a newbie of sorts..but he took our hearts by playing with us and sitting on our shoulders ! No way I could let the little guy get away! If in had the ability to handle more,I'd get a rescue bird, but my age and especially my health long term, doesn't bode well for it right now. Best wishes to you!

I got her!!!! She was in a filfth cage, feather plucked chest, missing part of a toe, skinny...sad, only sunflower seeds in cage. was told she is seven, given up by an ill owner... I very had her for two hours now, we have cuddled, I gave her a spritz bath, mango which she liked, broccoli which she loved!!! And some cooked rice. So she either craving healthy stuff or was fed it before ending up in a pet store with sunflower seeds... She has even purred for me!!! She was ment to be mine!!! We are going to be just fine, I named her Penny. Time will tell how rest of flock gets along with her. I thought she was napping while I typed this but as I turned to check on her she was plucking featheres..... So now she is on my shoulder...we did good for our first day together! She has only plucked a thin strip, so I think we can turn it around!

Great news so far ! It was meant to be ! There's so much out there to read about this condition that I've spent the last few early morning's doing nothing but..wish I had done so before, but a year and a half ago,in didn't know what a quaker was nor anything about feather destructive behavior among certain parrot species. So far,I'm making progress in little ways as he has not ripped any feathers now for 2 days. So its a one step at a time process that allows me time to come up with creative ways for him to become more engaged in other activities. Keep the faith.

Welcome to you and Penny and what a great thing you've done by rescuing her. I hate to think how many poor animals are in this situation, but at least you could save one. Good on you.
