Hi I have two quakers. Separated as they are just pets. Reed who is 18mths old blue & River who is 8mths old green. Reed is nice sometimes to me but just loves my 16year old daughter. She bites everyone else - cranky girl she is lol
River the boy is just delightful. Loves cuddles, does not care who has him. They are fed on fresh greens, & maintenance diet + the odd raw peanut/almond Ive just introduced a fresh chilli to see if they like.
Question - i was feeding the maintenance crumbles but the female just seems to crush them into dust. so i changed to a smallish pellet which she turns to dust as well. i was thinking of getting a medium size pellet to see if its just something that they tend to do?

Welcome to the Forum! Neither my QP Ralph nor my CAG Scooter crush their pellets-- they either eat them or toss them on the floor. The larger pellets would at least be worth a try. If Reed won't eat dry pellets, you could try soaking them in water or unsweetened fruit juice for a few minutes to soften them. That often works well with parrots who are rejecting the dry ones.

Yeah I end up with a lot of dust in the bottom of his food dish and on the bottom of the cage. Soaking is fruit juice works for everyone else but my bird,buddy..he simply takes a beak full, then walks over to his water dish, soaks them then eats. He has a Y shaped perch with one leg extending to his water and the other to his food..he walks back and forth with food in his beak..funny to watch. Good luck with your youngsters. Just fun to watch their natural behavior.
