Hi! I am from South Australia and have been lurking here for a while so decided it was probably time to properly introduce ourselves . We have had an 8 month old male Blue Quaker called Birdy for about 3 months now. Birdy was a temporary name until we found out the results of his DNA test but the name just stuck and so Birdy he is! We have been through quite a steep learning curve as he is my first parrot and I have learned a lot from reading about others' experiences here which helped get me through some rough patches. We have had about a month of very crabby, nippy behaviour when he was going through his first molt (mainly his upper body) and I wondered what the heck I'd got myself into. He is much happier now all the pin feathers have gone thank goodness.
He enthusiastically has a bath every 3 days or so and his favorite things to say are : good morning (at any time of the day lol), bye bye, hello, yummy yummy, whatcha doin, good birdie, good baby, are you being a good birdie, gimme a kiss (with lip smacking noises), plus imitating coughing, tongue clicking and other noises - he loves imitating rude farty noises that hubby taught him. I am teaching him Old Macdonald and he has got the EIEIO bit and mumbles his way through the rest with the occasional "quack quack" although I suspect he is a little tone deaf. He loves to hang out on the top of my monitor for hours, usually preening and looking out the window. We also have 3 cats and have had to be very careful to supervise when Birdy is out of his cage. The cats seem very wary of him though and the little chap usually chases them away or nips them so they don't like to get too close.
It is still early-ish days and he is quite challenging at times but he makes us laugh every day with something he says or does.
Looking forward to getting to know you all!
