Hi I have just rehomed a couple of brother Quakers Billy and buddy but slightly changed buddy to biddy for personal reasons. They are 2 years old grey and other is greeny light yellow. I gottjepor from he pet shop as thy were sent here t be rehomedby am elderly couplewhich one is seriously ill in hospital and stated in a letter that they must be rehomed together. The cage is quite small for 2 but I read through the 3 page letter and saw they were tried in a much bigger cage but apparently didn't like it and just sat on the floor in the corner. I've seen a much bigger cage I would like to get but I really don't know what to do.Any advice would be welxome. First timers that one of them bit me quite hard and left a mark because I moved my gold chain they were trying to chew around my neck! They have gently pecked me before but mot like today! Only one of the brothers sqwarksssss and even more so when I leave the room.

Welcome to the Forum. A larger cage would probably be better for them, but from past experience, I know it can be hard to get a parrot to accept a new cage. What is the size of the cage that Billy and Biddy are in now? QPs are notorious jewel thieves, and it's a good idea to remove any jewelry and watches before letting them out or handling them. And parrots do resent having things taken away from them that they've claimed as their own and may react with a chomp.

This is a special time for you to make the transition comfortable for you and them as well. My lil guy, buddy, has a sleeper and a day cage along with a playgym all side by side with seed catchers. His sleeper cage is 20 deep x 24 wide x 27 tall. His day cage is 22 deep x 26 wide x 34 tall. Both have top perches one being a double. The playgym also has a top perch and a sisal rope attached to the ceiling from a hook that I also run a thicker chain across his span to another ceiling hook and anchor the remaining chain to the side of his sleeper cage on an angle. Quakers love to climb all over and play. The chain looped a bit lower between the ceiling hooks sways a bit and gives him good wing exercise as he tries to keep his balance while walking it. Yeah he's a spoiled little brat, but I dunno..it just kept growing ya know? But the emphasis really is maximizing available space. The chain allows me to hang toys from it as well, keeping his interest in walking it. Bar spacing is important as well as is overall construction materials. 1"bar spacing is best. Also, consider the color. His sleeper cage is white while the other is black. He stands out better in the white cage, being chartreuse and green. Now cost is a huge factor for most of us, but used cages are readily available from garage sales to Craigslist ect.,for far less than the price of new cages..just can't believe how much some of these cages go for..unreal. The play gym,new at 99 bucks was well worth it. Just make sure that if ya go the seed catcher route that the sides also integrate into the vertical bars so that the stuff doesn't just fall into the seed catcher and fall onto the floor anyways via a gap at the bottom. As I introduced buddy to each of his new digs,I kept his old cage nearby. He would look at the new one for a few days untill curiosity got the best of him..eventually allowing me to remove the old cage. Changes in his environment have to be slow. It took 2 weeks for him to venture up onto the chain, all be it he was still young. He loves his domain and stays there throughout the day even if I'm gone having windows light and food while the rest of the adjoining rooms are dark. As far as the jewel thing..haha yes they are jewel thieves! He yanks on my gold chains and takes advantage of the situation especially when I have both hands in something and can't move him off ! They are opportunistic to say the least! Gym shoe laces and leather are favorites of his as are the caps I wear! Made some cheap chew toys just by hanging old ones on his chain. Best of luck to you and hope this helps ya out a bit. Search back on our threads to get some ideas for anything..there's some good folks on this site that have helped me out from time to time. Cheers!

Adding to Dinucci's post - things your QP will want to interfere with/destroy: - TV remote control buttons - computer keys - anything made of shiny metal - footwear (particularly rubber soles and shoelaces) - newspapers I'm sure there are more things I've forgotten.

Yes he goes for my daughters leather handbag, pouncing on the opportunity the very second she leaves it unattended! New gyms too..never will forget the time I took my new sneakers and placed them in the closet. I came back into the hallway ,where they were, and there's buddy sitting on the floor looking around...he was actually crying !!

Welcome to the forum. I hope things work out for you with your two little ones. It is very kind of you to rehome them and I am sure they will adjust in time. One thing with Quakers... is that you must have a lot of patience. They really need to think things through before they respond.
Best wishes.
