How do you all deal with the poop!? I have my 3 year old QP Duncan out as much as possible, but he poops everywhere (obvs, I knew that before I got him). He poops like every 15-20 minutes, which seems like a lot to me. So the more he is out the more poop. I’m not sure if potty training is a good idea, so I’m wondering how do you all let your birds be out for long periods of time and still keep the house somewhat clean? Follow them around with a paper towel? I have the hardest time when we are on the couch or in bed because every poop makes a stain and I have to wash the blanket immediately. We love to snuggle and watch tv in bed but it’s getting to be a lot. Any tips appreciated!

Pooping every 15-20 minutes is pretty typical for a QP. What I do is just let the poop fall where it may, and clean it up as soon as I'm able. I have a collection of T-shirts I wear only when I have Ralph out to avoid having my good shirts getting pooped on. A wet paper towel with a dash of vinegar, or Dawn dishwashing liquid, will safely remove poop from most surfaces. For tougher dried-on droppings, the product called Poop-Off is usually effective. You might want to dedicate a blanket for use when you and Duncan are watching TV together; a second one (or third, fourth, etc.) on standby might be helpful too.

You can train your QP to poop where you want - it takes a bit of effort (we haven't bothered), but there are threads on here created by members who have done this. Check out Julianna's posts, also dinucci. Or else search by the keyword "poop". Hope this helps. And welcome!

Yes it can be done as far as training goes. Like bitybird says..it takes patience, but it's fun and rewarding for both you and your lil one ! Now..it's never gonna be 100 percent so don't expect that. They get excited and distracted a lot and forget, but usually when things are calm, they fly hop right over to their designated place. Invest in a cart on wheels, like a bus cart at a restaurant, and a couple t stands. All I have to do is change the papers on the t stand on the cart as he spends a lot of time on it. He does, however, like to perch on the back of my kitchen chairs..I use the fleece blankets I cover his cage with at night to cover the chair backs during the daytime. They are simple to wash and dry in 5 mins. Read up on our threads..lots of valuable info there ! Best of luck!

I forgot to say...we just watch her (as when she is out she wants to spend her time being near/on us) and when she does her "squat" motion I grab a tissue and wipe it up straight away. Having said that, we don't have fabric furniture, just leather, and our flooring is tiles (so it is easy to clean up).

Oscar is toilet trained to poop on paper and not on me. You must remember that he doesn't fly so it was a little easier for me to train him. However... in the mornings when he sits of my belly with my left hand cupped around him... he will hold it in for up to 40 minutes. He is really comfy and knows not to poop on me... so they can hold in it when they want to. He loves the rocking motion of my breathing.

I had asked a friend early on with my QP about potty training. Repetition is key. I have a plastic shopping bag hanging on a side table near where I sit a lot for when he needs to go. Sometimes I carry a "poopy rag" (paper towels) if I'm not going to be near a waste basket, toilet, his cage or outside. He's trained to do his duty in/on those places because I use to just bring him every 10 or 15 minutes early on. The shopping bag was most helpful or bringing him to his cage. He rarely goes on me unless I'm totally distracted & miss his cues - starting to squat, his "poopy" dance, or sometimes he says "huh?". He knows he's not suppose to poop on me & does hold it as long as he can if I'm busy. He also holds it if he's enjoying snuggle time with me. Most of the time I'm aware of what he's doing & notice his cues. Unfortunately, my husband is not so lucky. He notices Verdito's cues sometimes. But many times he still gets pooped on. Perhaps because I did most of Verdito's potty training. lol

I bought a robot vacuum, a stick vacuum and a spot and carpet cleaner. Put covers on lounges, wear a tea towel as a "cape". He will poo on command if I catch him on time. Nearly got it covered. Every few days are poo days where I search and clean. Been a bit slack on cage cleaning lately, weather doesn't lend itself to hosing.
