Okay this is my first blood. Pidge has drawn blood on visitors but this has eased off now his wings are clipped. Yesterday was going normally and he just casually leaned over and bit me hard on the face. About an hour later he almost took a piece out of my hand. I yelled "beak" in his ear (as recommended by his breeder) and put him in his night cage for 5 minutes. At 19 months I assume he will have his first breeding season this spring. Maybe his hormones got the best of him.

Whoa, that little bugger! :0 Yep, sin bin time is good, but only if it's short (like you have done). 5 minutes is perfect, enough to make the point and allow him to show he can improve his behaviour afterwards. Sorry you got bitten! I think they all do it at some point - Bonnie still does sometimes. Just make sure you don't give him a reaction, as they are little drama queens and it will reinforce the behaviour if you yell/swear, etc. All the best.

Maybe his hormones got the best of him. [br Buddy has done this exact thing to me as well..nipped me good on the neck and ear after he flew onto my shoulder..or on the finger when offering him a treat no less..even when we're in a neutral area. However,I don't think I'm exacting out the punishment good. It's impossible to pick him up after that as I shew his away or he immediately flies back to his cage tops. He drew blood on my dried out hands ,but I was pissed (italian temper kicked in). So I had to grab him with a blanket and put him into lockup for a while. On another occasion,I picked him up on a t stand and put him into his cage that way. Last week I was considering a lupron shot. His one cagetop has a pan with paper. I removed everything, paper included and remove anything he uses for nesting. He was a good little boy after that for 2 days. However yesterday,he was back to being a jerk, lunging at me if I walked by or anything..beak open..he wasn't on my finger or shoulder the whole day..not that I trust him. He sat there and screamed at me whenever I was around,or screamed out the window. Don't know what to do..he's slightly clipped too,but I think he needs to be " clipped" somewhere else too ! Haha. When Pidge or bonnie are being mean, how do you get them to their cage? How do you show them the reason for it too? Maybe I'll bring him outside later,or fly him between his play stands in another room to loosen him up. My daughter is coming over this morning so well see how he is with her around. So far,I'm the only one he hates..the one who plays with him, feeds him, talks to him the most and so on lol.

I use a beanie (winter knitted hat) to get Bonnie back in the cage. I don't actually have to do anything, I just show her the beanie and she runs into it! It's almost like she wants to go in the cage and the biting is how she is trying to tell me that she wants to go in... When she goes in the beanie I usually say something like "Oh dear! You bit me. You need to be careful". Not sure if she understands or not, but I think she does...she usually blinks and looks almost sorry for a second or two (no longer). Her ego is too big to be sorry for very long.

Oscar will lunge at me as well... and when he does... I go up to him and touch his beak with two fingers... as if to squeeze it.. but I don't. I just hold it there. He stops almost immediately. It is like his mind is elsewhere and I am not Mommy anymore.. so he needs to be reminded who I am.... this works for me.

Buddy lunges at me when he's on his t stand and I have my back turned haha..sweet the last few days he's been, but can't resist the temptation to be mean. My girlfriend pointed this out that when I'm not looking,he's leaning off his perch trying to beak me..sweet.. I caught him at it and he puffed up and started bobbing his head ,boogie, for a treat as if nothing happened lol..so now he must be using lunging as a way of trying to get my attention. Have to try the 2 finger beak thing.
