Hi!
I have a 14 year old female quaker that I have owned since a baby. Lately she has started acting super strange, and I can't figure out what is going on with her. I recentlybpurchased her a new cage (about a month ago) and this behavior started about a week and a half ago. She has been sitting/basically laying down on a perch all puffed up, all day long. She won't even go in her happy hut anymore at night time which she has used since a baby. She's eating and drinking with normal droppings. I'm just super confused on what could be going on. If you walk by her she hisses and tries to attack you through the bars. But, if I stick my hand in her cage and ask her to step up she does and continues on with normal interactions. Helppp lol.
Thank you!

Hi Joslyn... My personal feelings is that this change in behaviour is definitely due to the new cage. I am wondering if you introduced her to it gradually or just changed them up. Either way... she will adjust but it will take time. The hissing when you walk by is because she is being territorial ... My Quaker hisses every time my husband goes anywhere near his cage or near me.
As long as she is eating and drinking... and doesn't show any other signs... I think things will work out. The puffing up is just a comfort thing that they do. My Quaker usually puffs up only when he is a little chilly.
Best wishes.
