Hi there!
First off, thanks for checking out this post!
I've had Nagoya since 2012, so she'll (I haven't had her sex checked yet, so I assume) be 6 this year. Tonight I noticed that she was sleeping in a corner on the floor of her cage, and while I looked up a few threads and double checked with her co-owner, I figured to get a second opinion. She doesn't normally do this. I checked on her around 12:00am with the lights off. She let off some small chit chatty noises (ones she prepares when she's getting ready to tell me off/tell her to leave her alone). I turned the lights on 15 minutes to check on her, and she began to walk in circles along the bottom of her cage (which is normal behaviour for her). She climbs onto the bars as usual to meet me at eye level and squeaks/chirps as normal. I opened the platform door for her and she began rubbing her cheek along my hand/arm (a sign of affection), though it's a little more than she usually does (though it could just be because I had just woke her up).
EDIT: Checked on her again, and she seems to prefer to be half underneath the empty food cup. Not sure if that signifies anything.
My co-owner suspects she's either not eating enough, becoming ill, or getting ready to lay an egg. I plan to monitor her behaviour for the next 2 days, and if it doesn't improve, will arrange for a vet visit. What are your thoughts?
Day Behaviour: Normal. Wakes up to scream in the morning hours, chats when alone and when with me, runs in circles on the floor of cage, climbs cage to meet me at eye level, walks along the main perch to occupy time. When offered my wrist or cheek, she'll rub affectionately. Lately she's been screaming more when she can't see me in the same room. When out of her cage, she remains very quiet.
Sleeping Spot: Usually it's on a perch towards the back of the cage (near a window). The floor spot is in a corner toward the centre of the room, between the wall of the cage and a 2nd, empty food cup. The newspaper in that specific spot has been chewed away. Previously, when she had access to some molted tail feathers, she was very particular about placing them a certain way against the bars. The feathers have since fallen out of the cage (this was in December 2017).
Diet: Recently changed her from a seed mix to a seed/pellet mix. She picks out the seeds from the new mix and leaves the pellets. I mixed in some defrosted fruits a week ago (a cut up half strawberry, quarter banana and quarter kiwi), and have not done so since. I'll most likely be filling the second cup with her original seed mix in the event she isn't eating enough.
Thank you so much for your help!
