I just adopted 2 Quaker parrots and brought them home today. They only been here about 6 hours. How long should I wait to bring them out of cage to fly around? They are 2 years old, have not been handle in a while I believe.

Watch them carefully to see if they get along with each other - are they in the same cage? Also, make sure your house is parrot-safe before you let them out...e.g., ceiling fans off, all hot/cold/electical hazards removed or sectioned off with closed doors, no toxic food (avocado, chocolate) lying around. I can't advise you on how long to wait; maybe someone else has some ideas? Personally I wouldn't rush into letting them have the run of the house until you've observed their behaviour a bit.

I would recommend giving them time to get used to their new home, and to get to know you better too. It takes time for parrots to adjust to new people and surroundings, so let the Quakers set their own pace. At first, you might just sit near their cage and talk softly to them, so they can get to know you and become familiar with the sound of your voice and your body language. You might read to them and even sing to them if you like. Offering them treats also helps them become accustomed to you and helps to build a bond. Trying to round up two nervous parrots in unfamiliar surroundings wouldn't be easy-- so letting them fly free so soon after arriving could be setting up problems. Once they seem more comfortable in their new home, you can try opening the cage door and letting the Quakers decide if they want to venture out.
