If you're lucky enough to have fresh produce near by like we are here in Chicago, supermarkets sell salad blends in large plastic containers. At my restaurant we would use spring mix/baby spinach, frisee,.I got some of this for buddy's chop mix while I was gone..it has a bunch of baby greens in it. All I did was mince it down to beak size, put it on his forage rock and he hammered the stuff. Cuts my prep time down and a bowl lasts for a few days! Mix dry fried eggs, wheat berries or whatever into it and voila! He will eat a quarter cup easily. Give it a try ! Happy Easter! Cheers!

Yeah it is good ! Even bitter tasting veggies like chard ect are actually sweeter as baby lettuces, which is why bunnies like it so much and mow your garden down before ya get a chance to harvest any ! Used to plant a huge garden..safety in numbers..but just got larger numbers of rabbits! Buddy has now taken to black Eyed Peas, cannelili and even red beans. He likes the soft texture and deftly removes the outer skin. Has anyone tried sprouting ? I just put dried wheat berries and lentils in a little cup of water in the fridge, but they never sprout. Seems like a hassle as in change the water in them every day,but no success. They're high protein anyways which he gets plenty of with his pellet diet so no biggie I suppose. He did like some alfalfa sprouts I bought one time tho,but they spoil quick.

I personally don't grow any indoor vegetables but I know others have grown the alfalfa.. I am sure you will get a response from those who do the growing.
I just wanted to say that the wheat berries and lentils might be the ones that have been baked or treated in some way for packaging? You definitely need the raw beans for growing and I don't think they belong in the fridge. If they were to grow outside they would be I a warm damp area.
Cannot wait for planting my outdoor garden... spring is taking its' flippin sweet time getting here.

Ahh maybe that's why I didn't have any luck with sprouting. I have planted peppers in the past from seeds i harvested from supermarket giant red peppers..they sprouted and grew huge! I'm gonna give that a try..my sous chef loves pepper seeds so this should be a winner!

Dinucci, I sprout seeds for Pidge. I put them in a strainer over a bowl of water with a bit of cider vinegar. It is so easy to change water and rinse strainer under the tap. Takes about 24 hrs to sprout. Remember to only sprout a tiny bit. The actual sprouts are not nutritious.

Your chop mix sounds delicious dinucci. I sprout wheatgrass seeds and Birdie loves them.
I am intrigued by his "forage rock" !?
