I just got back from a fishing trip..my girlfriend stayed home with buddy..anyways the second I walked in the door I was greeted with a flyby, his version of a drive by,i guess and a bite ! He's been real aggressive twards me and real affectionate to her in the last couple days since..wonder what's been going on since I left haha. He's warmed up just a little to me in the 2 days since I've returned, but nothing like he was when I left..sweet cuddly ect. Hopefully he will return to his normal self today. Gotta house full of family for Easter dinner coming today. I don't think he will let me clean the cages so she will have to do it. ..ahh a silver lining ! But all this aside, has this ever happened to anyone? I was regarded as Mr fun before. This is the worst he's ever been with cage protection. Wild antics, head whipping, snarling, open beak every time I pass by. I chuckle and he imitates me but with his head down on the ground and walking with his head straight up in the air like a goose. Sweet talking doesn't work. Full beast mode. He's done this after 1 other trip last fall too,but not to this extent. I've removed all the things he could consider nesting materials in an effort to make him forget.

Oh, this is VERY familiar to me/us! What you are experiencing is quaker 'payback'....for leaving and enjoying yourself. What's happened is his favourite person (you) left without asking permission. Better get used to it, then you'll be a much happier slave.

Hahah yes I suppose it was payback time ! But now ,yesterday, he gotta his respect back ! Guess he was tired of being mean all by himself. Trying to nip me as I give him a treat?? OK no treats then ! I hung out a lot by one if his cage tops, what I call the DMZ, where he stands guard beak open ready to swipe if I reach any further till he calmed down. Took a couple days, but he's now sweet again and even let me reach in and pick him up. Such nasty sounds and antics worse than ever. So eventually,he came around after not being able to mooch food treats and attention. Someone wrote here about not naming their birds at all. Buddy could have 3 or 4 names depending on his mood. One time he was perched on my finger and when I asked him " Whats your name little boy? , he gave that old familiar quaker grunt that sounded like a low octave " how"...so I thought " how" ? Hmm ok It's a noise I'm sure they all make and is usually a prelude to being crabby haha. So he also carries the name " how" or Howie on occasion. Glad to know I wasn't the only one! I wonder how our 2 birds would get along? They'd probably teach each other evil things to do to us ! We will see how the next trip goes. Springtime is making it worse on certain days!
