Wow! Hard to believe buddy is a year old today! He is provided me with much-needed fun since we picked him up in May. I'm going to make him a couple of new toys with some stuff I picked up from a new bird shop close by. Also gonna re use some of the toys he has destroyed to fashion some new ones.
I've learned a lot both here and on the web. Lately, he's been a real good boy. After watching Juliana's Oscar tear up a Kleenex box, I decided I'd put one up on his cage top. Also, I made him a couple of foot toys. For fun, I leave a couple of treats wrapped up in a Kleenex that he can find on the floor while foraging. This has worked to keep him busy.
Training has been good but a little problematic at times because he likes to just fly off to his windows and scream for a mate. I guess that time is coming for him, although his nest building skills need honing..not quite Joseph the carpenter just yet!
Poop training..this has been going quite well. Friends scratch their heads when I tell them what I'm doing..it was suggested here to find a neutral place for him to go to to do his thing..in this case his t stand..thanks cnyguy?
This has worked quite well and he's rewarded with praise and treats! One time though I told him "go to perch " and he flew to the chair top nearest his t stand and pooped, then proclaimed himself a good boy haha. .all while bobbing his head for a treat too ! One time I swear I caught him faking it..flew to the stand, squatted but I didn't see anything, then started bobbing his head for a treat.
This wouldn't be beyond him. Make no mistake, these guys are very smart. 4 weeks ago I bought a new pair of hiking boots that I keep behind a laundry room door that leads to the kitchen. I accidentally left the door open and found him chewing on the shoelaces. 2 days ago, I left the door opened for a minute to grab something and he immediately flew behind the door to chew the laces again. They have huge memory banks..so now when he turns his head sideways to say he doesn't understand a command,I know he's BS ING me and being lazy !
