So I received the results of the DNA test today. Little Trump is a....... female!!!! I'm so happy with her, she is the sweetest bird. I do have a concern with chronic egg laying. I will do my best to prevent that from starting. I have never had a female quaker before. Am I correct that other than the egg laying everything else is the same as a male? Speaking ability, nutrition, and care are all the same? I know I sound paranoid, but I love this little girl so much already. I want to make sure I do everything I can to give her the longest healthiest life I can provide for her.

Ha ha, that's really funny that Trump is a girl! I didn't know you were getting a DNA test done. I think what you are saying is correct - that apart from the possibility of egg-laying, everything else is the same. Bonnie is 4 now and has not laid an egg (yet). We don't provide her with nest-building materials (e.g., sticks or cable ties) just in case it encourages hormonal behaviour. And whenever she does the regurgitating motion with her head/neck (usually when one of us is scratching her head) we just put her on the floor or back in her cage for a break. Hey, maybe you could call her Trump-ette (Trumpet).

I like trumpette... that is cute. I like to know the gender as well because it does make a difference. If and when she does lay an egg you must ensure that her calcium is good which means to feed her eggs... or shells... most Quakers like eggs in one or more forms... scrambled, boiled, poached etc. Take care.
