Anyone got a quaker who can sort colours. Pidge seems totally oblivious to colour.

I'm not sure, I did see a quaker on YouTube that appeared to be able to differentiate between colors. We know other birds/parrots do. I would think quakers would be able to as well. Why do you think yours can't?

Ralph reacts to colors-- especially orange, which he dislikes (with a few exceptions). But he doesn't seem to have any other color preferences, nor does he identify anything by color.

Buddy reacts to some colors, violently to chartreuse, orange or hot pink, others not so much. Don't know what the difference would be there or why I should say. I bought him a basketball game,it has orange balls. He will retrieve them and now throws them into my hand below the table..trying to work with him to get it to the basket. I also got a peg game, which is probably the game you saw on you tube..comes with 3 colors and 3 rings apiece. This is fun for him as he chews on the rings, but shows little preference for the colors, red, yellow purple..gonna try it again with him and see..been a couple months since,so maybe since he's older,he will dial in more.

They know colors... Oscar is the same as the others. I am not allowed to wear bright orange and yellow... or else he will not want to sit with me. He screams at the city workers when he sees them in their orange and yellow suits.. lol... And he hates school buses... cause they are bright yellow as well. He doesn't mind any other colors.

They do recognise colours. Bonnie, like Oscar, Buddy and Ralph, detests orange (my husband's orange fluoro vest he wears for work gets the Quaker Alarm Call every time). She's actually OK with the other colours. Obviously I neglected to read the appropriate chapter of the Human Slave Training Manual for Quaker Parrots that deals with such things.

Funny bitybird! The quaker alarm call !! Know it well..sleek back, crane out head, eyes popping out and a sound like he's being stabbed. His new paranoia is the salad spinner..a new thing I can use if I don't want him climbing on something! Stainless steel bowls..he hates them too. I'm going to start to work with him more on the peg board game cause he seems calmer with that vs the basketball game. Back to the alarm thing tho..when he's fearful of something I'm doing, vacuum ect.,he hangs on the far side of the cage and actually starts talking..maybe to diffuse the situation? I use this opportunity to talk to him and calm him down,so he doesn't go nuts about the vac or hand vac..so he's doing better in these situations. .but it's still funny !

Oh, don't get me started on the Evil Vacuum or the stainless steel bowls....there's enough stuff there for a whole new thread/conversation.

i think they see and pick and choose colors and shapes quiet well. for example,my qp, coco can pick and choose when you show him a piece of paper and a dollar bill. he don't care much about the piece of paper but will pick the dollar bill everytime. i think it's the green color he likes and the engraved features of the bill that also stands out. he also wants to keep the dollar bill. getting it back is fun.

Hey quakerdad!funny ! I have to watch out leaving money in easy reach for buddy too..coins as well! It seems as tho there is a texture preference with some things and intracate patterns they're drawn too. Maybe that's why, when I think of it, that the color white, when combined with a different color like some of his rope toys, keeps him busy by himself, whereas,he doesn't play with the yellow ones too much. Shoelaces too. Loves my gym shoe laces, white, but won't play with the ones I bought him, pink and green. So if anything, softer color, white, brown leather, cream colors, purple and even black hold his interest longer. Textures like cell phone covers, remote control buttons hahah are "go to "fun items for them Fun to just sit and watch them isn't it ? Cheers !

Pidge loves raiding my handbag and grabs notes, coins and credit cards. I've seen him discard $5 notes in favour of the orange $20's. I've tried to interest him in coloured sticks, pegs and tokens to see if He'll play with me but he is not interested.

This explains Pidge's aversion to my handyman. He wears safety colours!
