Since Pidge was full on attacking anyone who came to the house I had to clip his wings. He became very miserable and quiet but eventually picked up. He is moulting at the moment so I have to keep checking as the feathers grow so quickly. At first I took 3 feathers and he could fly pretty well. He attacked my new housemate so I clipped another. I have to say he is so much more enjoyable. He no longer bites my neck and face. (It's very hot and he likes to lick the sweat off.) He is much more gentle and not as destructive. The mess in the house is now focused on 3 places and easier to deal with. He acts like a wussy invalid and calls me to carry him despite being quite capable. I think he is entering puberty so everything is changeable.
He is far more affectionate, demanding endless head rubs and wants to sit on me and poo most of the day. How do people get him to stop pooing on them? He tries to go to what he thinks is an edge but usually I'm under the edge!!
Sadly he seems to have forgotten how to talk, although he still asks me for Scratch Scratch.
There were times over the last year I've been in tears and felt I'd have to have him rehomed but it has come good.

Ohh...poor you and poor Pidge, but at least it sounds like an overall improvement. When Julianna reads this post she will no doubt reply, as she has trained her quaker to poop in certain places only (e.g., the newspaper in the cage). I've considered clipping Bonnie (because of her biting my husband so viciously at times), but we're not at that point yet. I'm glad Pidge is more affectionate. I am sure you will both come through this OK.

This is one if the benefits of clipping. I know,to some it seems emasculating, (don't know the female definition ) but it can stop a little aggression. Buddy is only slightly clipped from last November, not since. It was done while we were on vacation by the sitters friend who is an avian vet. Man was he happy to see us when we picked him up ! Since we got him,he has never had full flight feathers. The first few days after..yeah he was a little iffy when deciding to fly, cuddly, confused, and such..squak for us to come over and visit him. But he got over it quickly. The one thing that comes to mind tho,is that his "flight pattern" is more lower in that he never attempts to fly up to the ceiling, fireplace mantle ect. He can still fly real good tho,25ft between t perches and can get off to full flight very quickly..so they get their MOJO back fast.. As for the poo training..im working on that too..will post another thread.

I forgot to mention that there are ceiling fans in all rooms and although Pidge never went near them it was a constant worry. He is definitely a low flyer now. Still sad I had to do it but it was the only choice.

I forgot to mention that there are ceiling fans in all rooms and although Pidge never went near them it was a constant worry. We have ceiling fans too - since moving to Darwin (where it's always 30-35C year round) they've been on all the time. Bonnie has never gone near them, but I know what you mean by worrying about it. One day she was really panicked - the day she got out the back door, see thread title 'Close Call' - I was really scared she would fly into the fans, even though her judgment in avoiding them is very good. I still worry a bit that she'll misjudge. But she seems OK with them.

You are so right Biteybird... Oscar is pooped trained. What I did was use a lot of praise and a little scolding too. When a Quaker is sitting on your finger.. you can tell when they are ready to poop as the squat a little and cling on harder. Each time Oscar did this I would quickly bring him over to the newspaper and let him do it there. Afterwards I always would say... in a happy high voice... GOOD POOP. This went on for about a month and many times during the day. Next thing I know he would be coming toward me and would stop over the paper and poop. I would always say GOOD POOP. He would then proceed to join me.
Today he wants off my shoulder to Poop... if he is not near paper... he will go to the edge of the coffee table and poop on the floor... when he rests on my belly in the morning... he even reaches over to grab a Kleenex to poop on... (no kidding)
No matter where I am in the house... if I hear him poop today.. and it hits the paper... I will tell him GOOD POOP.
If he is being in a bad mood.. and decides to poop on my shoulder.... he goes immediately back to his perch and I will lean over and show him the poop... and raise my voice... saying WHAT IS THIS?? Bad boy... Oscar poo poo paper... NO poo poo Mommy... bad boy. I make sure he sees the mess he made. He will shyly back off. After a minute or so... I will go back to him and tell him how pretty he is.. and make up.
ha ha ha... as I am sitting here typing... Oscar calls Mommy... (he is in the bathroom condo of his) and I go there. He wants out so that he can poop... lol lol. I held him over the sink and he did his duty. Gotta love this. No more pooped clothes to wear. It takes time... but geezzz... it was surely worth it.
